The new Craft and Co. outlet in Collingwood Victoria contacted Lighting Matters with a problem that no other supplier was willing to take on..
..replace the external lighting for their signage, so that at night people would be aware of where they are located.
The signs beforehand were lit by two 150W halogen flood lights shining in from either side of the two signs. This provided a very poor and in your face method of lighting the sign which the owners were sick of, as well as paying for the power they were drawing.
Being an external installation careful thought was placed into the design in terms of waterproofing as well as effectiveness. After some consideration and testing at night the best form of lighting the sign was in uplighting so that there would be no glare seen from any light source, just light shining up and effectively backlighting the signage.
Used in the installation was long lengths of 35x35mm box section aluminium with frosted diffusers, painted Tea House colour to match the existing wall colour. The 6 metre wide signs also required a very warm and inviting backlight colour, and for this we selected the LM rigid LED strip in 2700K, housed in a silicon sleeve to provide a waterproof length without compromise, then fed through the wall and connected to a 150W waterproof CLA driver.
Given the massive reduction in electricity consumption, the project went from 600W of halogen lighting to more effective LED strip running at a total of less than 150W, with much better longevity.
